With friends like these who needs enemies
Dear Smt Sonia Gandhi
The CNN-IBN today reported details of the Oct 9th meeting that saw the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh humiliated by the Left Parties. Specifically, CNN-IBN’s Diptosh Majumdar, writes that several accusations were made against the Prime Minister including:
Why has the Prime Minister not visited any major Muslim country?
Why did the Government not side with Iran during the debate on its nuclear programme?
Why did the Government not condemn the hanging of Saddam Hussein?
You as the Congress President and the chief protagonist for Dr. Singh to enjoy the highest political office have an obligation to him as well as the Nation to confirm if this indeed is true.
You also have the responsibility to the nation to explain if this is how your party’s coalition government expects to conduct its foreign policy for the rest of its term now that you have publicly backtracked on your willingness to go to polls.
Specifically the nation demands to know how Indian National Interest is served by the Prime Minister choosing to visit or not visit a foreign nation based on whether its theocratic or not.
Isnt it odd that for a party and a coalition that thrives on swearing by so called “secularism” that those who support seek Prime Ministerial visits to theocratic states as proof of your commitment ?
The nation also demands to know how Indian National Interest is served by defending a theocratic state’s right to Nuclear Programme especially when the state in question is guilty of sponsoring terrorists and illegal proliferators.
This nation also needs to know how Indian National Interest will be served by condemning the execution of a convicted mass killer in a foreign land who is guilty by the way of having killed fellow Muslims by the scores.
It is ironic that you call those who oppose you on grounds of long term National Interest as “enemies” and those who humiliate you by holding a brief for fundamentalists, terrorists and genocidal mass killers (foreign ones at that) as your “reasonable friends”.
The leader of the opposition Mr. LK Advani called Dr. Singh today the weakest Prime Minister ever. The only reason Dr. Singh has earned himself that ignominy is because he was willing to step up and shoulder responsibilities that you yourself had abdicated. The only reason Dr. Singh continues to weather this ignominy is because of his commitment to you.
You stand guilty of having abused this commitment and not standing by his convictions purely to secure and advance your family’s political interests. There is a limit to which you can put your interests above the nation’s interests.
Out of respect and consideration for Dr. Singh’s credibility and dignity the least you could do if you cannot stand by him is to allow him a graceful exit. At his age and having once steered India’s economy his legacy cannot be tarnished only because you reduced him to a lame duck leader in the eyes of the people of this Nation and the International Community.
Please be honest to yourself and the people by letting him go on principle with his dignity.
yours truly
A concerned “aam aadmi”

Why has the Prime Minister not visited any major Muslim country?
Why did the Government not side with Iran during the debate on its nuclear programme?
Why did the Government not condemn the hanging of Saddam Hussein?
Are they NUTS!
Even by the Communists’ own standards, these comments are astonishing. And deeply hurting, not just for the PM (I’m sure the good old man is under a lot of emotional stress these days because of the humiliation AND is withstanding it) but also for the rest of the nation.
It hurts because the fate of 1 billion people is being dictated by bunch of hard nosed, white haired, wrinkle faced, red eyed, pigeon brained, big mouthed old farts who enjoy a combined vote of not more than 5% of the total and that too on religious/theocratic grounds – not on the grounds of economic, political or national interest.
And how long will our media keep trumpeting the supposed “personal integrity” of the Left leaders? What sort of personal integrity do these hypocrites – who swear by secularism in op-eds in People’s Democracy but act communal in reality – display?
What media reports for Gujarat, that is visible in plain sight to everyone, is bias !!!
Whaen CNN-IBN speculatively reports about a obviously closed door meeting,is plain truth…..ah the bias can be seen sir !!! But thats not of the media.
Sonia Gandhi has alwasy stood by MMS. Never ever has she opposed anything that MMS has undertaken. I can of course talk only about the public position that she takes and not the closed door things that I am not privy to.
Just because LKAdvani says MMS is the weakest PM doesnt make him one. He is one of the most credible leaders we have in recent times….and Sonia Gandhi & MMS make a formidable team. And no matter what their detractors would like to believe, the govt. is still going strong. Touchwood.
“He is one of the most credible leaders we have in recent times”
Keep chanting that line a thousand times, and maybe then it will become the truth.
Our credible PM says one thing but means another.
Says: Left is free to withdraw support.
Means: Please don’t withdraw support. I beg you.
Says: The nuclear deal is non-negotiable
Means: Only the continued existence of my pathetic govt is nonnegotiable. National interest is definitely negotiable.
Says: The Left is the enemy of the nation.
Means: The Left are the greatest friends of nation.
Richard Nixon: I am not a crook. Read my lips.
Rahul Gandhi has to prove himself, so says Madam Sonia.
Once Rahul proves himself in Madam Sonia’s eyes, this MMS will see the last day in his office. The hint is already given by her openly and publicly. You don’t need to read between her lips.
The probable cause of MMS’s exit will be health reason.
Congressmen will run helter and skelter, openly beg before Sonia to save the country from distress and turmoil, and lo and behold, the Prince Charming will become the Saviour of the Nation.
She is biding her time. That’s why she is keeping amused all her UPA allies by making them believe that she also wants this UPA govt. finish its natual term.
BJP and NDA allies have golden opportunity to make dents in UPA brand of politics.
People are fed up with tamashas going in Delhi durbar.
On lighter side, its competition between MMS and Sonia about who better symbolizes sacrifice dharma.
MMS has lost all respect and credibility. Soniaben mate shu bol va nu!!
Congress should go for election as early as possible, otherwise sonia will face jaggernaut modi and fast multiplying anti-incumbancy.
Former US president Richard Nixon said it best: “If you have them by the balls, their hearts and minds, will follow”. And this is exactly what the bunch of ideologically fossilised communists have done to MMS and his shockingly invertebrate government.
Yossarin,
A political commentator (even if it is a blog) retains credibility only untill he is seen as unbiased. Yes, we all have our likes and dislikes but while writing a piece, one must ideally set them aside & look at things objectively. If that is not possible one must at least be able to mask the leanings.
Because once the bias is apparent, even a writer of the stature of Arun Shourie loses his sheen. ( To a neutral reader of course)
Nikhil – not sure what you are referring to specifically. Everything is open to challenge on offstumped but there will be no political correctness. If you have a specific concern on an opinion or fact, please state so ?
Yossarin, sympathy for MMS is misplaced. If any one is to be blamed than it is ‘HE’ and he alone.Tell me,who stops him to throw his resignation on the Sonia’s face and walk out, with what ever dignity and shame is left?!Which so important work is he doing, which the another ‘tom, dick or dirty harry’ from the congress stable can/will not do?
Replace MMS with any one nothing will change. We are not so ‘politically innocent’ to know WHY?
Being a ‘Punjabi’,I am doubly disappointed and shamed.
PI.
THE Electorally Dysfunctional PM is on a visit to Nigeria.
Did the Karat comrades mention that Nigeria is a major Muslim country ?
This visit comes at a time when India’s chances of heading the IMF financial committee were nixed by Nigeria !
Also, 11 Indian nationals working for a steel firm in central Nigeria’s Kogi state were abducted and there is no news of them.
Is the Electorally Dysfunctional PM going to speak up or them is anybody’s guess.
So, finally the reason for his visit is oil diplomacy or so the babus like us to believe.
Good going for India after the Myanmar oil diplomacy failures
Kudos for an interesting and accurate piece of writing. Please leave a few lines about Maino Gandhi’s lapdog in the following community,

“But in equal trouble, political analysts said, is the credibility of the government and of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who had staked his reputation on a deal which he had said future generations would look back on as historic.
“Looking rather crestfallen, Singh seemed to back down at a seminar on Friday, saying it would be a disappointment if the deal did not go ahead, but that life would go on. His government, he said, did not want an early election.
” “Dr Singh says it is not the end of life. Which is true enough, but it could be the end of Manmohan Singh,” the Business Standard wrote in an editorial titled “A hostage in office”.
“”There is life after the nuclear deal? Sure,” echoed the Indian Express. “But what kind of life?”"
