Politics and Public Policy in India

Internet Hindus and A Lobby for Excellence

Arun Shourie writing in his latest book titled “We must not have a price …“  has made some profound observations.

the extremely high price the country paid for starting the reforms late. And even these late reforms have taken place only in economic policy and not in administration and governance. Reforms in these fields are stonewalled because politicians don’t want to commit harakiri. One major problem before the country is the plethora of small parties who have their own narrow agendas and no national vision. Combined with the corrupt section of the business class, they derail even essential reforms.

Shourie suggests that to bring about these mandatory changes, what is needed is a lobby for excellence. Since most labour unions are affiliated to political parties, even they cannot form this backbone. Only entrepreneurs and the middle class can fit the bill.

Shourie’s twin observations

#1 on the need for a culture of excellence in the public institutins

#2 that only the Middle Class and Enterpreneurs have any incentive to foster such a culture

bang on.

It is clear that the politicians and the upper crust Urban elite have no incentive to invest in Institutions for they can easily get by virtue of privilege, access and crony capitalism.

It is also clear that the this troika of Urban elite, Crony Capitalists and Politicians also have many an incentive in buying off the poor with Entitlements to preserve their positions of privilege and access.

The Middle Class and the average Entrepreneur neither enjoy privilege, access nor have direct leverage on the politician.

It is this Middle Class that has a deep and vested self interest in ensuring that  drains are fixed and streets are policed, Justice delivery works all the time and every single time.

It is this class alone that desperately needs the Institutions of our Democracy continuously strive for excellence..

For only when this happens will the System deliver for the individual and every individual every single time without the need for recourse to Media Celebrities and Political Patronage.

Rajesh Jain on his blog has an excellent series on the road ahead for a Center Right movement he founded ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

  • Friends of BJP: The Road Ahead: My Answers
  • Friends of BJP: The Road Ahead: Three Questions
  • Friends of BJP: The Road Ahead: 3. Engagement
  • Friends of BJP: The Road Ahead: 2. Communication
  • Friends of BJP: The Road Ahead: 1. Ideas
  • Friends of BJP: The Road Ahead
  • As Rajesh Jain and others sit down to chart out the details of this journey for this budding Center Right movement, Offstumped calls upon them to seek inspiration from Mr. Shourie’s words as a Mission Statement.

The  Internet has clearly become the breeding ground for this Center Right movement causing understandable disquiet within the media elite to the point where they are down to claiming phony victimhood.

In doing so the media elite have handed the Center Right movement the opportunity to define this budding movement exactly as it needs to be based on its opposition to a left wing psuedo-progressivism that is passed off dishonestly as “Liberalism”.

The label “Internet Hindus“, by the admission of those who coined it,  should have nothing to do with either religion, faith or who you pray to.

The label “Internet Hindus” now has a broad secular reference to all those who draw inspiration from Dharma and are opposed politically and ideologically to the left wing psuedo-progressivism of the Media elite.

As the Center Right movement looks to organize itself as the voice of Middle Class and Entrepreneurs, the Leftie media elite better watch out – the Internet Hindus are coming.

You are making a very good point here.
BJP has made a big mistake when let Congress and commies use the word “communal” as a bad word. Whenever Congress called BJP communal, BJP went out of the way to prove itself secular. BJP in fact gave legitimacy to congress as the certification authority of “Secularism”.

I think the word “internet hindus” must be defined as “those who starve dharma”. We must be proud to be internet Hindus as it will mean we are for excellence!

    2. Kshabd says:

I think the language should be – those who understand Dharma – Internet Hindus.

still people are scattered over different blogs.you have tried to bring together some in http://www.offstumped.in.
But we need something with more impact, more volume/traffic and which binds all.
something like a small version of drudge.
say,if all the tweets with news links sent to each other is in one place/site.Agree,you have a group tweet in offstumped.in ,
but you have to bring the tweets with news links to a prominent position and need more stuff.
and ofcourse we need some thing like “newsbusters” to take on sagarika & co day by day, byte by byte.
i think coining the term ‘internet Hindus’,though mockingly, is the one and only good thing that Ms.Sagarika Ghose has done to Indian media/journalism.
congrats Yoss for accepting it as a challenge

    5. Logically_Hindu says:

      Guys,
I dont hold any co-relation with what Sagarika said. Infact, I do believe she will withdraw from twitter due to the reactions she is receiving.

I would say one thing, though. It would help to remain polite in twitter exchanges with the journalists.

They will use such terms to denigrate you in future. In a 1000 statements they will pick up the 2-3 offensive ones and make a story out of it.

The strength of the Internet lies in the fact that we have the capacity to point out our view in a logical but polite manner. Getting into offensive words has the risk of spoiling this movement.

People like Atanu Dey, sandeep, offstumped carry a stellar role in such matters.

Indorectly though, Sagarika ghose has given us an idea. That, there is an organised Hindu group on the Internet.

It might be a good idea to create a google group and really get organised. The membership of this group can be restricted to ensure only genuine people get in.

On another wavelength the use of the word organised by sagarika shows her mentality and also a hint that left-wing media is equally organised..

    11. I agree. But isn’t it also not true that Middle Class has vested interests also in things that are in direct conflict with that of Middle Poor (poor)? Wouldn’t such a loby leave out those below middle class?

    12. ramjan says:

Indian middle class if driven largely by traditional Indian values system would make them stand way apart from Marxist definitions of working class. The Marxist, Freudian and Adam Smith’s models of man on their own are incomplete and heavily flawed. If every man was to fit just their simple definitions, human race wouldn’t have progressed this far. So don’t even give benefit of doubt to young, flawed theories. India’s strength is its enlightened middle class which can be and will be different from other middle classes which operate either in totally secular or totally semitic cult frameworks

    13. [...] Mr. Arun Shourie perhaps came closest to articulating where exactly this political space must lie when he called for embracing a Culture of Excellence. [...]

    14. S Raghavendra Bhatta says:

Honestly speaking I could not believe that this honest middle class which is made a dumb witness to all the pseudo secular comminspired media can organise and raise its voice to be heard by at least those who matter.
Infact, Kanchan Gupta’s article opened my eyes to the fact that a determined saner approach to nation’s well being is the most needed tonic that “INernet Hindu” can surely administer in days to come.

    15. Amit Bhadhuri,Ex-officer,CISF says:

A brill idea and it must be sustainable. Hindus are fiercely under attack from Musslmans, tainted politicians and pseudo-secularists from all sides. Now is the time to rise again 63 years after independence.

    16. Manoj Agarwal says:

One lingering doubt from yesterday’s debate. Swapan da said that BJP lost it’s middle space and small government argument to Congress (well, things like NREGA etc don’t really point to that). But left-liberal is supporting Congress. Left liberal is not really small government, middle space type of intelligentsia.. For me, things don’t really add up. Well, in the final analysis, “it’s all about money, honey”

    17. Amit Bhadhuri,Ex-officer,CISF says:

It appears very clearly from the functions and actions of the UPA and Mussalman vote bank dependent other parties, that, Bharat is certainly moving fast towards back to Mussalman rule in the next 10 years or so. The spiralling population growth of Mussalmans, the massive flow of illegal immigration from Bangladesh, the foreign funded pseudo-secularist English media’s relentless anti-Hindu campaign and total selfishness of the middle-class all are reasons for that. Further, the congress has found a great way to stay in power, they loot the country for 4-1/2 years and then part of the lootthey spend for six months before the elections. It is the Hindus who are responsible for the situation to come to this frightening stage.

    18. sayed altaf ullah says:

      Dear Sanjay Kaul,
Do not take the particular verses of Quran to exhibit the brutality. First show the world how the Quran give a start, how it manages and then how it curses / rewards.

If you’ll be like this the Hindu will just be an Opponent of Muslim without any structural future.

Take care and God Bless you

    19. maithili says:

Why most of the Internet Hindus are male and upper caste? Is it because women and dalits gain nothing from the rise of Hinduism?

    20. MegaDalitMan says:

      @maithili

Obviously you are sexist and Casteist as no one else on Internet cares who and person of what sex caste creed is behind a particular handle used on Internet.

It is Hinduism where Hindus, both male and female worship Goddesses. Case in point: Vaishno Devi and numerous other Devis.

Last I checked other monotheistic religions don’t recognize anyone as god other than their Prophets, and coincidentally their prophets are all male.

Christian Bible suggests that Female are not even equal to males because female were created by males from male’s rib bone.

Muslims, their Prophet raped hundreds of females, one called Aisha was raped from the age of 6. This suggests how much that shitty stone age religion thinks of females. Add to the fact that Islam requires only Females to be covered under tarpaulin and not men.

Islam asks for murder of people on the basis of ethnicity. The various Christian churches also discriminate openly on the basis of ethnicity.

      >Koran 9:29 Fight those who do not profess the true faith (Islam) till they pay the jiziya (poll tax) with the hand of humility. So here Prophet Mohammed is instructing a true Muslim to fight people of other religions until the unbelievers debase themselves and pay tax for their existence. So the greatness of Islam is revealed only when follwers of other religions are humiliated.

      >Koran 8:12 Remember Thy Lord inspired the angels (with the message): “I am with you: give firmness to the believers, I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers, Smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger tips of them.” Here Mohammed is giving step by step instruction on how to torture and kill Kafirs if they don’t follow Islam.

      >Koran 9:5 “Then, when the sacred months have passed, slay the idolaters wherever ye find them, and take them (captive), and besiege them and prepare for them each ambush. But if they repent and establish worship and pay the poor-due, then leave their way free. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.”
There are many more such verses in the Terrorist Text Koran.

Caste in point, Westbro Baptist Church who openly say that God Hates Hindus,Jews,Africans etc.

Also another Christian Denomination says that Darker people were made by god to serve and be slave for the lighter skinned people

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_people_and_the_Latter_Day_Saint_movement

In Hinduism our Gods are described as dark skinned, hence proves that unlike the racist and sexist semitic religions Hindu school of thoughts are least discriminatory.

After all in Hindu religion we had people who were born into downtrodden castes, like Lord Valmiki Ji and also Lord NaradMuni ji who were born Dalit but due to greatness are god to us all.

If Hinduism was discriminatory on the basis of caste, then its central religious text wouldn’t have been written by a saint who was born into downtrodden castes. (Ramayana)

      @MegaDalitMan

      >If Hinduism was discriminatory on the basis of
      >caste,

This news article says it all. If this is not upper caste Hindu’s discriminating on the basis of caste, then what is?
