Politics and Public Policy in India

In Left Liberal Desperation and Opportunism, no respect for the dead …..

It is now an established fact that the 2002 riots NGO cottage industry is on a daily mission to trash talk the Supreme Court appointed SIT to thus undermine its credibility.

Having run out of theories to float and arguments to make, in  what is clearly a last gasp of desperation the activists have recycled a Left-Lib report from 2002 as “new evidence”.

While it is regrettable that retired Judges are passing off hearsay as evidence, it smacks of cynical opportunism that they are doing so with no respect for the dead. Perhaps it is in order that we remind these present day activists that back in 2002 the very same Haren Pandya who they are touting today was accused by them of having fomented the riots:

The carnage, the report said was planned with “military precision” at a meeting held in Lunawada, which was attended by two Ministers, Ashok Bhatt and Prabhat Singh Chauhan. These plans were disseminated to 50 leaders of the BJP, RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal. Leading the mobs, and in many places armed with computerised voter lists, were BJP leaders including Cabinet ministers.

The list of politicians named as accused in the violence by those who appeared before the tribunal include the Home Minister, Gordhan Zadaphiya, MLAs Maya Kodnani Ashok Bhatt and Prahalad Ghosa and former Minister Haren Pandya.

What credibility can we give to their new claims based on hearsay when their  so called Tribunal told  a different story 10 years back on who the conspirators were behind the riots and who was accused for the riots  ?

Justice Suresh and Justice Sawant on 23rd November 2002 accused Haren Pandya of riots

  1. “Cottage Industry” could flourish even more. What with Congress on decline and Modi on ascendance.Crores can be made by being on the wrong side of history and truth.
This will continue for whole of 2012.Till the dust of Gujarat assembly elections is settled. If Modi wins again.[ most likely outcome], rant will reach the crescendo by end 2013 to ensure that Modi does not leave Gujarat.
NGO’s could not stop Gujarat from marching ahead. They can’t stop Modi from marching to Delhi, triumphantly. They know that. They are least concerned, as there are aforesaid crores to be made on the sly.
It is the ” economy” stupid!

    @Jitendra

I don’t think Modi is interested in moving to Delhi at all. At least not at this stage. On his own, he’ll never-ever make any move of this kind. If party unitedly tells him so then we may oblige but otherwise there is no chance.

I don’t see party doing that any time soon.

Well well how many lies will you all keep on telling? Haren pandya was killed by modi and no one talks about it. Why? How can a man kill his close aide in cold blood for the sake of power? Here, you people extol his virtues on development but is development done by killing innocents in cold blood and wishing it away as if nothing happened? Whatever SIT or court says, he will be called a murderer all his life and whatever he does as repentance cant get back the lives of those who were killed. Thanks to mukul and teests whose tireless efforts are finally bearing fruits otherwise everything would have been swept under the carpet and people would have forgotten like in 1984.

I took Loneranger little more seriously till now. After this comment of his, it is clear he is also from the same ‘Cottage industry’ that has many more of his kind on its role.

“Whatever SIT or court says, he will be called a murderer all his life ” This is a gem from him. This guy, as he claims, does election analysis etc. as a professional?

The world knows about indian judicial system. This is not the forum to debate on it. Till date, sajjan or tytler have not been punished by the courts. Similar thing will happen in 2002. People including my friends saw sajjan in trinagar area with mobs but what has come out of it? Fyi, on the infamous meeting where modi is said to have told officers to go slow on hindu rioters , everyone has got plum postings and are enjoying life in eastman colour. One of them has gone on vacations twice to europe once with family and another time with escorts. You think he earned so much from his normal salary?

    Dear Loneranger,

Indian judicial system is what we have.

Secondly, there is a sea difference between how Sajjan kumar et al. case is pursued and how the Modi’s case is pursued. There are 1000s of spirited and motivated citizens like you who scrutinized thread bare every tiny detail to the point of death. Comparing this with Sajjan Kumar et al. is a totally flawed comparison and just betrays your bias.

Finally, if you have all these evidences like people going to Europe etc. to enjoy Modi’s largess, I think you can produce them in the court. Even more inferior evidences have been submitted to the court.

BTW, a very close friend of mine, who works in C-DoT, a semi government department, and a government salary with no scope of any corruption whatsoever (among many reasons one of it is, he himself is dead honest to the point of irritation) went to Europe for 14 days from the savings that he did over the years. And I’m sure he has not blown every penny of it. So I believe, merely going to Europe is no proof.
